"have we got some good news for you"

"hi my name is ..., i am calling on behalf of [something catchy like 'NIPS' 'National Identity Protection Service'or anything with the word 'national', 'security', 'protection', etc. involved] our records indicate that you have been victim of telemarketing fraud and our lawyers have recovered an amount of [usually around 1000 dollars]. out of that [said amount] we take a fee of [$$$] which leaves you with the amount of [a decent amount of $] all we need is to verify your account information we have on file." sound familiar?
and to make it seem even more plausible they assure you that they will be putting "a lock" on your accounts and future accounts. asserting that you are not actually paying out any money and it only comes out of the money they have "recovered". interestingly, they actually have majority of your account information because you may have already been scammed before.
the 'great' thing is they will also be sending you information packages on how to protect yourself from future fraud.
how do they sleep at night? well, simply, they convince their employees that they are sending them information that will help them but really they are not putting said amount of $$$ into the account; they will be taking the second amount (that they said they would be) out.
amazingly enough they record basic 'yes or no' questions that end up twisting you into agreeing to all this and yet when all is said and done they left out all that wonderful business about you getting a 'recovered' amount.
additionally, if you are wondering how they got 'your' number; easy you're on a list of people that they have scammed before or they even go as far as to get it randomly. "how do i get removed from the list?" you can shout and holler all you want but they won't be removing it any time soon. "how can i make them stop calling?" talk to your MLA, Govenor, Bank, etc. the information is out there and it is FREE! even though they 'sell' it for the supposed cost of "lawyer fees".
